Thanks to a prompt from Know Your Company, a survey tool our team uses to stay in sync about topics like goals, company policies and trivia, Metis staffers recently shared our favorite recommendations for Boston’s “hidden gems” – spots in the city that we personally love but realize our teammates may have overlooked. Next time you’re in town or in the mood to explore, check out these choices for restaurants, live music, outdoor views and more.
- Ringgold Park in the South End: Right by our office and a block from awesome coffee and food at The Wholly Grain, this park is small enough to avoid the crowds and spacious enough to provide a Zen spot for an afternoon break.
- Johnny D’s in Davis Square: If you live in Somerville or you find yourself way out on the Red Line for the night, Johnny D’s hosts great live music nights. Get there early if you can, because like any great secret, this one travels fast and brings in crowds.
- Grotto in Beacon Hill: Trust us – head here when you’re planning to impress someone with a secluded atmosphere and amazing Italian food.
- Addis Red Sea in the South End: Another Metis neighbor, Addis Red Sea’s traditional Ethiopian menu and setting are as unique as they are addictive. We hope you like sharing.
- The Cantab Lounge in Central Square: Cantab gives every other Boston dive bar a run for its money, but it caters to such a variety of musical talents and interests, it earns its recommendation. The Tuesday night bluegrass jam is as awesome as the local musicians who maintain their weekly presence.
- JFK Museum in Dorchester: While the museum is worth visiting, its lawn and outdoor space connect with the Harborwalk and Old Harbor Park to offer a great stretch of green close to the city. Check it out in the summer.
- Bukowski Tavern on Boylston Street: Tons of beer taps, awesome burgers, the sense of being in a familiar bar when you’re actually downtown. Need we say more?
